White Dismissed from Team (Updated)

CLEMSON, SC -- Sources have told TigerNet that reserve wide receiver Waymon White has been dismissed from the football team. Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden, reached in his office, said he would comment on the situation after practice today but offered nothing further.

White, a redshirt junior from Decatur, GA, had shown flashes of promise in this year's spring practice. Coming out of high school White was rated as an All-American and the ninth-best quarterback in the Southeast region by Prep Star. Moved to wide receiver at Clemson, White was redshirted in 1997 and did not catch a pass in either the 1998 or 1999 season.

UPDATE at 7:06 PM EST:

Tommy Bowden confirmed after practice on Wednesday that Waymon White has been dismissed from the football team for "violation of team rules." Bowden also commented that there will be no revaluation of the situation which rules out a chance for White to return to the team.
