said Wednesday that Timothy will likely sit against Ball St. this weekend.

Swinney, speaking to the media after practice, said that redshirt freshman Shaq AnthonyShaq Anthony

will likely get the starting nod.

“I’m disappointed that Giff hasn’t been able to get where we quite need him to be,” Swinney said. “He could probably go, but we’re going to try to get him a little further along. He’s going to be okay, but he’s still a little sore. We’re going to try and get Shaq and Joe GoreJoe Gore

ready. Joe got poked in the eye there at the end of practice, but he will be okay.”

Swinney was asked how confident he was in Anthony, and he laughed.

“Just okay. “He’s a freshman, about as confident as you can be in a freshman on the offensive line. He’s a talented player, but he’s a long way away from being a finished product,” he said. “This is an opportunity for him this weekend to show he’s ready. I think when he matures and gets some experience under his belt he is going to be a very good player.”

Swinney also said that while punter Spencer BentonSpencer Benton

could see game-action this week.

“Bradley is going to play,” Swinney said. “We need to get him ready because he is going to be the guy, and he may be the guy this year. Spencer did a fantastic job and he is definitely the starter, but it’s not like you a get a free pass for the year.”

Swinney said he had been pleased with the practices.

“It’s been a pretty workman-like week,” he said. “I’m anxious to see them play. I want to see them respond from last weekend, and not make some of the same mistakes that we made.”

He also said that his team can’t afford to overlook Ball St.

"These guys are going to make some plays,” Swinney said. “This quarterback is very good. This running back is very good, strong, tough runner. They've got some skill guys that can do some things and they know what they're doing. “I wouldn't be surprised if they move the ball a little bit and make some plays."

Swinney was asked about the rumored altercation between freshman quarterback Chad KellyChad Kelly

and another student Wednesday, and he called it “ridiculous.”

“If you call two guys yelling at each other news, then it’s news,” he said.

Swinney said that a student panicked and texted police, and then he said that Kelly needs thicker skin.
