Pickens' recruitment might come down to Clemson and South Carolina

South Carolina's best prospects to compete at EPT Showcase Saturday

by - Staff Writer -

The top prospects from the Palmetto State will converge on Irmo High School Saturday morning for the fourth annual EPT Football Skills Showcase.

The event is invitation only and run by quarterback guru and EPT founder Ramon Robinson. Many Clemson fans recognize Robinson because of the work he’s done with Tiger signal caller Kelly Bryant, but he also works with quarterbacks throughout South Carolina.

The headliner of the group will no doubt be 5-star defensive lineman Zacch Pickens. The T.L. Hanna standout has flown under the radar for much of his recruitment but is probably the most sought-after Palmetto State prospect in a few recruiting cycles.

The 2019 prospect has 13 offers from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. However, many think this will come down to a battle of the local schools – Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina.

Sticking with the defensive line, we will get our first look at a pair of 2020 Columbia (SC) Hammond School teammates. Defensive end Jordan Burch already has a Clemson offer and Clemson has stayed in contact with defensive tackle Alex Huntley.

Burch is a 4-star prospect and checks in at 6-6, 225 pounds. He’s being recruited by quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter and defensive line coach Todd Bates.

At 6-4 and 280 pounds, , Huntley is a defensive tackle and claims offers from Arkansas, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.

Two quarterbacks that could eventually receive a Clemson offer will be working out with Robinson. 2019 legacy recruit Davis Beville out of Greenville and 2020 prospect Luke Doty out of Myrtle Beach will have the attention of many of the spectators.

Beville – the son of former Clemson linebacker Scott Beville – completed 61-percent of 322 attempts for 2,530 yards and 38 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He already owns offers from Pitt, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Western Kentucky, Toledo, Troy, App State, Georgia State, Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton.

Doty – who grew up a Clemson fan – already claims offers from Baylor, Louisville, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. He has been in contact with quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter.

Kamren McCray – the 6-6, 325-pound offensive lineman out of Moncks Corner (SC) Berkley – will also be in attendance. He already has an offer from South Carolina, but recently attended Clemson’s spring game and spent time with offensive coordinator Tony Elliott and offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell.
