Friday Night Lights: Clemson commits and targets shine

by - Senior Writer -

Clemson commitments and targets had stellar week zero and week one contests this past weekend as high school football got underway across the country.

This week might be even better as more players start the season, including a primetime matchup as quarterback commit Chase Brice and the Grayson Rams take on the IMG Ascenders in a game that will be nationally televised on ESPN.

IMG features Clemson linebacker commit Mike Jones and wide receiver target Brian Hightower. Grayson has Clemson targets in linebacker Owen Pappoe and Jamyest Williams.

The game will be the opener for Grayson, but the Rams scrimmaged this past weekend and Brice was sharp: He finished the scrimmage 7-of-11 passing for 209 yards and four touchdown passes in the first half. He did not play in the second half, but he also looked good running the ball.

Clemson commits

*Tee Higgins, WR, Oak Ridge (TN): Higgins had two catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns offensively, but also shined defensively. He had two interceptions in a 56-21 win at Clinton.

*LeAnthony Williams, CB, Roswell (GA): Williams had an outstanding night as he registered eight tackles, two pass break-ups and a forced fumble in a 24-7 victory against Buford.

*Amari Rodgers, WR, Knoxville Catholic (TN): Rodgers four catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns (60 yards and 32 yards) and had a 62-yard punt return touchdown in a 63-30 victory at Morristown West. Rodgers left the game after hurting his shoulder again, but he told TigerNet late Sunday that it wasn’t the same shoulder he injured (torn labrum) earlier this summer. He said x-rays were negative and he expects to play this week.

*Baylon Spector, LB, Calhoun (GA.): Rushed for two scores (four yards and 59 yards) as the quarterback in a 28-0 shutout of Douglass.

*Hunter Johnson, QB, Brownsburg (IN): Johnson completed 14-of-32 passes for 242 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a 28-26 victory.
