Watson honored with Gainesville street named after him

Back-to-back Heisman finalist Deshaun Watson had a stellar career in his three years at Clemson including leading the team to their first National Championship since 1981. However, in actuality, his superstar play was getting rave reviews back at Gainesville high school where he holds career passing records in Georgia and won the Class 6A title back in 2012.

The city of Gainesville voted YES on Tuesday to rename a street close to Gainesville high school's football practice field called 'Touchdown Drive' to 'Deshaun Watson Way' and the sign will have a red background (Red Elephants) with white lettering.

“Certainly, (Watson) has brought much attention and credit to this city, high school, his family, and friends,” School board member Sammy Smith told the council via Gainesvilletimes.com. “Amazingly, the credit is centered around his sports career and success, and, in my opinion, his life story exceeds his sports story.”

In 2016, Watson completed 388 passes out of 579 attempts for 4593 yards and 41 passing touchdowns with 17 interceptions for an adjusted QBR of 84.9.
