Jury members selected in Howard's Rock vandalism case

by - Assoc. Editor -

Micah Rogers, 20, of Pisgah Forest was in court Monday morning after being accused of vandalizing iconic Howard's Rock.

Rogers pleaded not guilty to charges of grand larceny and malicious injury to property valued at more than $10,000.

Police investigators believe that Rogers broke the glass that secured the rock and chipped off a large portion of the rock on June 2, 2013.

If convicted, Rogers could serve up to 10 years per charge in prison.

Judge Jim Barber asked over 100 potential jury members about their affiliation with Clemson University and if any of them had previously taken pictures with Howard's Rock or had touched it. Eventually they were able to find twelve jury members including seven males and five females.

Opening statements will begin on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. and the trial should take around a week to complete.
