Overall, is the world a better place than it was 50-60 years ago?

Ultimately looking for a simple "Yes" or "No", so please start with that, then feel free to elaborate. A post below (on POLITICS bored) got me thinking, and I think the answer is "Yes". I realize mankind's progress is not a consistent, straight line across all specific cultures and parts of the world when all aspects are considered, but look at it this way; would you really go back, if you could, 50 or 100 or 200 years, with everything life entailed at that time?

If this is the wrong bored, please move to the correct one. I just know politics is a factor.

Above all else, love and forgive. Understand that people who disagree with you are not necessarily idiots or your enemies. Respect the wisdom of the founding fathers and individual rights and freedoms. Always see the beauty and humor in life.

Yes. But it's about to not be.

We're at a high-water mark right now but we're also at the end of an era...and historically the transitions between eras are always rough. This one seems poised to be especially rough. A whole lot of things are converging and shaking out at once and we put ourselves in a whole bunch of pickles - financial, demographic, climactic, (massively) disruptive technology, global overspecialization - because we didn't do the math and bear in mind the word "sustainability". And we have dated governance systems that will not allow us to pivot quickly enough to escape the worst consequences of our misaction. So it's going to be even worse than it had to be.

We'll get through it unless we REALLY work hard at messing ourselves over. But we saw a really grim decade-plus starting in 1929 that was followed by a world war, and we look like we're on a similar trajectory here in 2025. Hopefully we escape the really big war at the end of that disruptive period but the next decade-plus is going to be...interesting.

Approx 55 years ago, my Daddy said that the world was going down the tubes fast. Of course, he was focused on a few things that were very important to him, perhaps disproportionately so based on his upbringing in a world that was disappearing. While there have been bumps in the road, I think he was wrong. Not saying you are at all, but hoping you are too!

Is it not inherent in the definition & actions of MAGA that the answer is NO?***

Buy the way. Does anyone know what time high tide is today on Lake Murray? Just asking for a friend.

Unquestionably yes. The gauzy haze of nostalgia supercedes past reality for some***

lots of cool electronic gadgets, healthcare is better, we might actually get to Mars in my lifetime, William Shatner not making anymore records, Tigers have three Natty's in football now. What is not to like about it?

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

Less violence, fewer wars, advancements in tech, etc.

But if we continue on this trajectory, I think you know what the answer is.
