Why not? The young man has a right to make a decision with Clemson as part of the equation. But it is still his decision.

The way I see it is that if a player "commits" to Clemson then they ask him to be fully committed to Clemson and not take any more visits. An offer to a player that is committed to another school is just an offer. If the player switches and becomes committed to Clemson then Clemson would ask them not to take any visits as well. Thats the way I look at it anyway.

Sep 23, 2022, 9:24 AM

A committed player? This thread is ridiculous. The guy can say no. The guy can stay committed to WF and visit if WF doesn’t have the same policy as Dabo. If he commits to Clemson though, visits will end or the scholarship opens back up and it’s more first come, first serve. It’s not that hard to understand.

I don't believe we make non-committable offers. If we offer and the recruit accepts then we will take them.
Our not allowing committed recruits to visit has nothing to do with offering other recruits who have verbally committed to another school. The reason is this recruit is still talking to other schools so he is not actually committed to WF.
It would be easy for the this recruit to politely not return texts or take calls or let our coach know they were not interested which should be the case if they were actually committed to WF. Seems he is using WF as his safety school while he entertains other offers.

Players commit for many reasons
Sep 23, 2022, 9:25 AM
[ in reply to I don't understand a word that came out of your mouth.*** ] |

We are consistently recruiting players but hold back on offers as we have other players that are higher targets first. When we make an offer, from what I've seen and read, it is a committable offer.
Since we don't always make early offers, players may want to secure an offer at another school. They don't want to miss out when we may never offer. Once we have a spot open and we make that offer it could be the player changes their mind and commits to us.
We have had player switch commits to us in the past as well as wait patiently for an offer they believe will come.

Clemson's stance is.
If you commit to Clemson, Clemson will commit to you. Clemson will have that spot and will not fill it later on when some 1 better comes along. That spot will be held for you and Clemson will no longer recruit for it. Clemson wants you to to do the same.
The policy you refer to does not apply to who and when Clemson offers. and... it's just a guideline.. this stuff isn't legally binding.

This staff has a long standing policy of continuing to recruit players "committed" to other schools until the player asks us to stop and/or tells us he has no interest in CU. The flip side is we expect our "commits" to not visit other schools if they want to be committed to us. that certainly doesn't mean other schools stop recruiting those kids and even offer them. do you really think other schools are not recruiting kids who are committed to us? CU offering a kid who has committed to another school is a non story.

What are y’all even talking about ????? Our deal is:
Sep 23, 2022, 9:40 AM
|

If you commit, you COMMIT - you don’t keep “going out on dates” - going on other official visits, etc.
Right ? Everyone still following along ?
The guy who committed to us, a month later, gets an offer from Urban Meyer at the suckeyes (because he is lazy and figures if Clemson wants him, he’s good) - the guy says he got an offer from the suckeyes, says he is blessed, and that’s it. Stays committed to us and moves along.
We are known for late offers due to our research and attention to fitting in with our culture.
Where has it EVER been said we don’t offer those that are already committed elsewhere ? We have done it a bunch of times - no I’m not going to provide examples.
I don’t understand the confusion here.

This is kinda big-boy territory here and it’s complex. On one hand, it’s kinda like saying… “I wanted to marry you but I just wasn’t ready and the circumstances weren’t right, but now I am (but you’re married to someone else now).” On the other hand, if you expect a principled approach to all aspects of recruiting, to the extent that precludes going after a desirable committed prospect that has shown interest in you, then you’re a Pollyanna, I’m afraid.

We offer a guy ... he accepts our offer ... we consider him a Clemson player.
It’s safe to assume that ALL of our top commits continue to get “offers” right up until signing day.
Getting an “offer” is not a problem with Dabo. He has never said our commitments could not continue to get “offers”.
That would be sort of silly and largely unenforceable.
He has said clearly that if you commit to Clemson, you cease seeking and entertaining other offers and you totally stop making any sort of visits to other programs while still committed to Clemson.
If you visit elsewhere while committed to Clemson, Dabo considers you de-committed.
Therefore, if this guy decides to come to Clemson on a visit while still committed elsewhere, I would hope and except that Dabo would say no, not until you de-commit first.

Our definition of "Committed" does not necessarily equate to another program's definition of "Committed".
For Clemson, committed means you have essentially shut down your recruitment as you are no longer taking visits, and you really shouldn't still be talking to other programs.
For Wake Forest, it seems their players are still allowed to seek out offers, take visits, etc.
As long as a player is still advertising his services, I don't see what would make him "off-limits" for us as he doesn't fit our definition of being a "committed" prospect.

We've often continued to recruit kids committed elsewhere. The "don't visit elsewhere" applies to guys who have committed to us. We put much more emphasis on the word "commitment" than others.
