Report: Deshaun Watson won’t report for Texans offseason practices, still seeking trade

The Houston Texans began a period of 10 offseason practices on Monday that will run through June 11, and former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson did not report — and isn’t planning to — per the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. After his demand for a trade was the talk early in 2021, Watson’s name has been in t (Photo: Trevor Ruszkowski / USATODAY) Read Update »

Letting DW4 get out of Texas would be the best thing for the team, and DW4!!!

true but in the mean time he continues to screw his career up. this is just another step along that road. I never suspected he would become toxic but he seems to be

Deshaun isn’t toxic, he just got the good ole boys lies & had enough! They have made him pay for that by trying to make an example out of him. It’s only money to multi-billionaires.

I’m proud of Deshaun for standing his ground, not claiming he was perfect but I’d put money on the fact he didn’t abuse these girls.

They are trying to let every future nfl player know the price for standing up to owners, even if they lie to you.

The Texans will do everything they can to lobby Goodell NOT

May 25, 2021, 7:00 PM

to put Deshaun on his exempt list. He is going to sit out anyway, and they would be able to fine him, not pay him if he does, as well as trying to recover some monies already paid him. If the Commish puts him on the exempt list, they HAVE to pay him. That would be truly ironic, and would be deserved Karma for the Texans management.

I STILL can't believe they gave away Nuk Hopkins for a nearly used up running back and a 4th round draft pick. One of the worst trades since the Indians gave away Manhattan for a few dollars worth of cheap Chinese beads.

They didn't trade him to get a running back and 4th round draft pick. They traded him because he was demanding a new contract, and they couldn't afford him. The Texans were maxed out on the salary cap entering this offseason even without his contract.

They got so little in return for him because most other teams couldn't afford to trade for a receiver making that kind of money, and then give up a high draft pick on top of it. The Cardinals were able to trade for him because their QB is still on a rookie contract which gave them more salary to spend. It's hard to demand a high return in a trade when the team you're trading with knows you don't have many other options.

Wait, what?

I'm confused; are you suggesting the owners deliberately sabotaged their most valuable player?

I get that they might be inept, but if there IS one thing they care about it's money, so I don't think that one makes a lot of sense. Separate issue, I guess, but cloudy waters regardless, for sure.

Again, Cal isn't the "owner". Cal is the CEO, and has only had that position since 2018, since his dad Bob died. His mom Janice inherited the team from Bob at the same time.

And Cal was blowing it, righteously. Even mom wasn't going to save his job if the public outcry got loud enough...and it was getting very loud indeed. Deshaun Watson wasn't even returning Cal's calls. Actually he still isn't.

My feeling is, Cal felt something had to be done. Maybe I just watched too much Perry Mason as a kid, but that sure looks like "motive" to me, and what got put on Deshaun was an A-1 smear job of epic proportions. It didn't materialize out of thin air. And who lives literally just across the street from Tony Buzbee again?

Oh. Gosh. Cal McNair.

Do I think Cal McNair cares about his job and his ego a whole lot more than the team's W/L record? Of course I do. And now the heat's completely off his seat, he can point completely to this "unfortunate Deshaun Watson situation" as the reason why Houston goes all pear-shaped. Not on his head.

My guess is, a whole lot of the league insiders probably know or suspect this already...and there will be some heavy hitters moving for Deshaun at a reduced price, at a very near date. If Houston wants to throw a franchise QB on the bargain rack, there's plenty of very smart franchises - which Houston assuredly is not - who will cheerfully take them up on the offer. I suspect Deshaun is "damaged goods" only for as long as Cal McNair can hold his wad...which, given his track record of p!ss-poor trades and personnel mismanagement, is not likely to be terribly long.

Excellent points, quozzel. Thanks for that.

You're an idiot if you think the Texans had ANY hand in this

May 26, 2021, 3:04 AM [ in reply to Re: Wait, what? ]

and you sound pretty mis-informed about what you do know...Cal McNair didn't live near Buzbee, his late father did and Buzbee was in touch with massage therapists as early as December 19 of last year, which was weeks before the season ended and a month BEFORE DeShaun demanded a trade...So there goes your Perry Mason BS

Who has time for facts? Amazing frame job too considering they were lucky enough for Watson to have gotten massages from at least over 40 women that we know of, had found a good portion of those women on Instagram, and had flown at least a couple of those women in from out of state. None of that means he forced any of those women into anything, but it's sure lucky for the ones trying to frame him that all of that was true.

That'll make any future player thinking of demanding a trade(something that happens with multiple players every single year) who has received massages from dozens of women he found online think twice.

POTD as far as how I see what has happen to a good guy that was in the wrong place at the right time to get screwed over by trashy women wanting to take what a good guy has earned. With their worthless existence, they could never earn in their worthless life time what they will be trying to scam DW4 out of through deceitful, vicious lies!!!

If you take off your orange tinted glasses, it is very easy to see Deshaun is becoming toxic. Kind of sad how his career is going now.

With all the legal problems he has, Deshaun you would think he needs to report. Maybe he knows he will be suspended by the league.
