Clemson coach Dabo Swinney announced that it looks like redshirt sophomore Taisun Phommachanh suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Saturday's spring game. Nows the time to start looking for sure, WE will be hurting badly if DJ doesn't stay healthy. you cant count on these kids staying healthy all year with covid still going on and injuries.. Sure hope Dabo explores the transfer for this one

The Transfer Portal has a few QB's including Perry who played for Miami. I know Perry wasnt great but he would be an experienced ACC QB as a backup. I checked it on 247 website. There is also a former Oklahoma QB available....we need someone as a backup because there is no guarantee that Chandler is coming due to the MLB draft...

DJ will be a stud, Hunter can be a quality #2. Winning a natty takes DJ.
No help from the Transfer Portal, quality candidates all want a guaranteed starting job at QB.
Chase Brice could come back, but he committed to App State.
The only realistic #2 when the season starts is Hunter. 5 months to get ready!

worse. Can't see Helms being a viable option, he holds the ball WAY too long, he will get killed. We better hope Bubba Chandler does not sign a MLB baseball contract, or we will HAVE to look to the transfer porta potty. Even if Chandler shows up and is a quick study, a very thin QB room all of a sudden.
Best wishes and prayers for Taisun on an eventual recovery. Achilles is one of the toughest sports injuries to return from.

Agreed. I watched Bubba play in person. He'll be a phenomenal addition to the baseball team and a good like #3 guy at QB. He is not a QB capable of running the team to success without a lot of coaching.

I don't think he'd come back. He wants to play.
There are likely to be another batch of transfer QB's hitting the Portal post-Spring. If we see somebody in there who can help us we probably should take a long look because we are likely down to Helms and maybe Bubba Chandler - if he decides to play football - this year.
A walk-on and a very raw true frosh? Not optimal. Ideally what I might look for is a running QB as a change-up for Hunter Helms, who can deal it around in the air a bit. Especially this late in the game I dunno if you're going to get a game-changer but you might get somebody situationally useful.
