clothes dryer has gone kaput. Looks like I may be partaking in a Memorial Day appliance sale this weekend. Yes lint filter is in the fridge and the milk was checked. What should I buy?

We old timers lament that the appliances that worked for 30-40 years when we were kids and that some of our aging parents still have are a thing of the past. I thought this was just a Gen X lament, but it turns out there is a movement called the Right to Repair that basically argues for making stuff that is good enough to stan the test of time and to be repaired independently. It has bipartisan support.

I returned from the Keys. It took about 45 seconds of youtubing to determine that it was an internal fuse, and that it probably overheated and popped because the ductwork internal to the dryer was filling up with lint. I verified the problem with my multimeter, vacuumed out the lint in the ductwork, and ordered the part on Amazon (3 of them for $5). I decided the next day that I wanted to wash my dirty clothes from my trip right then, and went ahead and bought one locally for $10. Now I have 3 spare fuses.
Anyway, the point in all this is not everything is so complicated as to require factory trained support. I'm certain I could have paid someone $150 to come fix the dryer, but there are surprisingly few parts inside of it.

w/d set. About 3 months later, the washer let go in the middle of the spin cycle and took out part of the wall in the laundry room and sprayed washer shrapnel all over. If anyone had been standing near that thing when it blew apart, it could have killed them.

I bought a super cheap one when I was looking for a house

because I wasn't sure what or where I'd end up. If the house I bought happened to come with a w/d, I didn't want to have much money wrapped up in an existing one. I bought a Maytag Centennial.
My reasoning to buy this specific model is that it is the same one that the rent to own places use--so they must be pretty durable. It has been basically trouble free (except for the popped fuse I mentioned above) and its unbelievably easy to work on. Literally there are about 15 self tapping screws that hold the entire dryer together. I think I could rebuild the entire dryer from Amazon and the hardware store.
It doesn't have an interface for an IP address to plug into Solar Winds to monitor and be emailed and texted the progress of my clothes drying, but it does have a very loud mechanical buzzer (that sounds like it should be on a Soviet submarine) alerting me that my clothes are done. It's completely mechanical and there are no electronic parts that I am aware of, so I'd guess someone will be pumping out spare parts long after I am dead. I was told they have been making this model in different shapes and configurations for about 15 years.
The LG's are much quieter (and expensive), Samsungs are crap, and supposedly Speed Queens are the most reliable, but also expensive.

If they made one with just an on/off button, that's what I'd get.
This is what I have now, it was the simplest one I found at Lowes a few years ago when I needed one. Unfortunately looks like Lowes don't stock these anymore. But it's simple and does the job well. It'll dry anything, quickly.
