My family and a lot of pubs I know have voted early since early voting was a thing.

Because Dems were more worried about getting their votes counted. All the MSM/liberal media has done for weeks on end it to talk about Trump and Repubs trying to suppress the vote of libs. It worried people.

I think we can guess why, this year, Democrats

are more likely to vote early and/or absentee. There's a politicization of both COVID and election integrity that has contributed to this.
I thought xtiger's was more of a general question, not specific to 2020.
Is it true that Democrats generally vote early in greater proportion than Republicans?

There's some of that on both sides when you consider that most of our votes don't matter, but I imagine it's more important for some to make a big show out of the fact that they're voting. Show off that sticker.

Possibilities:
1) Employers don't have to give you time off to vote. If you are hourly, then easier to vote early or mail in to keep your employer happy.
2) Issues at polling locations in the past (understaffed, closed) in areas heavily democratic in the past (or heavily publicized outliers in the past).
3) Transportation issues for the infirmed or poor
The above can be really attributable to any party affiliation. Below are more Democratic possibly
4) COVID sensitive (not health-wise.... more from a psychological perspective)
5) Easier... don't have to sacrifice your time (possible long waits) to prove you are a patriotic citizen by voting as Dems are less visceral (less need to express yourself outwardly with Boat parades, I-95 caravans).

most of my friends in SC, pubs and dems, have figured out that early in person voting allows them to vote without a line and get on with their lives. The only reason I didn't this year is I want to be with my daughter when she casts her first ever vote and she wants to do it on election day.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I too would like to know.
Why do people post pics of them and those "I Voted" stickers? I don't even like to wear them.
I just really don't like wearing stickers.

They enjoy the affirmation of their social media network.

Dems more likely to live in dense urban and suburban areas

where lines can get pretty long at the polls on election day. Pubs more likely to live out in rural areas where voting is usually quick and painless no matter when they show up.

I think you've probably hit it right there. That sounds by a lot the most plausible explanation.
