"I called a lot of people that I know and trust." Swinney added he spoke with GMs, NFL coaches, and more.
He received plenty of feedback, which led to a list, and eventually, Tom Allen.
Swinney adds it is a reminder of how people perceive Clemson.

I asked Tom Allen about traits he identifies that make a successful defense under him and will look to foster here at #Clemson, which are physicality and toughness.
"We are going to adapt the scheme to our guys."
Allen added that he wants to simplify things and allow his athletes to play freely and quickly.
If you are listening live, I recommend it. Allen carries a ton of energy.

Swinney says Allen will start with coaching LBs...but will transition to more of an overseer of the defense and stay here.
He added that Ben Boulware will take a larger role with the LBS, giving Allen more authority and time with the entire defense.

Allen says part of the intrigue at Clemson was the opportunity to win national championships.
He says plenty of schools say that's their goal, but only a few can truly reach that. He says spots like Penn State and Clemson can say that, and add close proximity to family to the mix...he had the right landing spot.

Allen says he isn't sure whether he will be on the field or in the box, but he will do what is best for the team.
He's done both, and doesn't mind either spot. He feels like he has the flexibility to do both.
Swinney says he doesn't care as long as Allen gets stops.
