I'm not a smoker nor am I a lawyer, but seems like you'd have a liability issue with kids going off campus to use tobacco if one gets hit by a car or something. I can understand designating smoking areas on campus, but banning all tobacco to me is just another attempt to limit individuals' personal choice. How will this be enforced, especially on game days?

"seems like you'd have a liability issue with kids going off campus to use tobacco if one gets hit by a car or something" WHAT? Why would the "kids" get hit by a car? Is it required that they stand in the road when they smoke? Do these "kids" have some mental disability to know not to stand in the road or at least move when a car is coming? Can these "kids" at least stand in the median and not in the traffic lanes while they smoke? Depending on the answers to these questions, I would agree that Clemson University definitely will have a liability issue requiring kids to stand in the road while smoking.

Some pretty hot topics in US politics to apply that to.
Would you apply that across the board?
Lot of religious folks in the South would probably not be in agreement with you on one topic I can think of.
So, can we only apply that argument to smoking or to other activities?

So, I'd agree that wanting government the government to regulate those with whom you disagree but not regulate you is hypocritical. And you're right that saying "protect my right to dip in public because it's not hurting anybody, but ban [INSERT SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE CAUSE HERE] because i think it's bad!" is a good example of this.
But how is your side of that, presumably banning dipping while supporting whatever hypothetical cause we may be talking about, any different? Perhaps we could just all agree to let other people do what they want?
I'm not gonna stop dipping at football tailgates because of this, but I can't imagine that's their goal. The real effect of this will be cutting down on the number of students smoking outside the library and Johnstone. With a commensurate rise in students dipping inside the library and johnstone ... oh and a new and thriving black market in cigarettes on campus. When the Cigarette Wars of 2017 start and the body count rises into the thousands, don't say I didn't warn you.

in your face, it's certainly rude and potentially unhealthy, but if you are outdoors and get an occasional whiff of a cigarette or cigar, that could not possibly be a health hazard. If it bothers you that much, just move.

Just throwing this in the mix. 3rd hand smoke is potentially more dangerous to kids than 2nd hand smoke. It's what sticks to your clothes and hair when you walk by a group of smokers on the sidewalk outside of a restaurant. Then you go home and hug your babies and they breathe in all of those toxins.
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-is-third-hand-smoke/
Not taking a side in this argument. I prefer a smoke-free environment but I'm not in charge of the air. And as far as those sissified vapor sticks ... in my opinion, it sends a powerful message to kids that smoking is cool ... again. It's not.

Good luck stopping people from "ghost vaping"...not really hard to hold it in still the cloud dissipates. Very likely unless you see a cloud it'll be even noticed....or smelled (like a constant smoking tobacco cigarette). Interesting tobacco free now includes non-tobacco products.

How can you ban smokeless tobacco? It's not against the law
Sep 23, 2015, 1:42 PM
|
|
Or health codes. I'm all for making clemson better, but someone explains how somebody dipping affects me? I don't personally use any tobacco, but this kind of crap is how you end up with your rights slowly being taken away. Sure, it's easy to say its bad for you, but what happens when they want to ban skydiving, then when car technology permits driver free operation, they ban driving, what about banning food that causes heart disease? Bye bye smokin pig. What about when they ban alcohol at tailgates? That's more dangerous than someone dipping near me. How about just banning football, Mike Williams broke his neck. Dipping never broke anyone's neck.
This is an inappropriate step for the university and goes against literally the very reason for founding this country. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

We had England's balls for a couple hundred years too, until Obama split them up and gave one to Russia and the other to Iran. He has been slowly but surely selling The USofA's balls off piecemeal to the lowest bidder as a precursor to his cap and trade program, in an effort to demonstrate its effectiveness...

I understand banning smoking indoors (even smokeless because of all of the cups and such left around). I understand banning all tobacco in high schools and especially middle schools due to the precedence it sets for younger generations. But why at a school where there most of the student body is legal age to use tobacco. Are they also going to ban all alcoholic beverages since that is also a negative to our health?

I don't understand why chewing tobacco or vaping is banned but I 100% get it for smoking.
If you aren't a smoker, you shouldn't have to smell or breathe in anyone else's cigarette smoke but no vaping or dipping? Come on now. I'm against smoking more so than most people but that's a bit extreme.

I don't understand the vaping thing. How does anyone

know for sure what chemicals are in it. Its not regulated and people trust some corporation that makes the liquid to tell them what's in it. I wouldn't. If I did vape I certainly wouldn't be one of those people that do it in stores etc around people that don't want to be around it.

Re: Campus Update: Clemson University to go tobacco-free

I feel for those people who are so addicted to tobacco that they cannot refrain from using for a few hours 6 or 7 times a year at football games while on campus. But it is private property and property owners have rights also, hopefully users will think of it as a few hours that could help them kick a habit that is offense to most people and damaging to their health.

I don't smoke or dip or anything, but this is a BS move. No reason someone shouldn't be able to smoke at a tailgate outside the stadium. Or in designated smoking areas on campus if you're a student or faculty.

Can we ban fat people from DV too?

I'm tired of fat people spilling into my seat or trying to get past them in the aisles. If we can't ban them, can the University at least make them buy two tickets to accommodate extra-wide loads?

"When I die I want to be buried up there on that (Cemetary) hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturday and where I can smell that chewing tobacco in every corner of the stadium. Then I won't have to go to heaven, I'll already be there."
