When I say best coach I mean overall, not just x's and o's but recruiting and wins, what he did for the program, etc...
A lot of people won't agree with this for personal reasons but I say it's Oliver Purnell.
Clemson has always been known for football, but for the short time he was here it actually became known as a pretty good basketball school as well.
The excitement around the program actually rivaled football and was trending upward when he left.
I think if he stays we have at least a couple ACC titles and several deep runs in the NCAA's, and we're known as a football and basketball school like the Florida's and Ohio St.s of the world by now.

Clemson was always known as a sleeping giant.
Not taking anything away from him but a lot of coaches could have done what Dabo did...

"a lot of coaches could have done what Dabo did..."
Totally disagree with this.
Could a lot of coaches have made us relevant again? Top 10? New Years day bowls etc? Maybe a playoff appearance or 2? Sure
I don't think any other coach out there has the run that Dabo took us on from 2015 to 2020. Could a coach come along after Dabo and make us that dominant again? Sure but only because of what he did.

Well none before him came close at Clemson. Danny had a couple of solid years and 1 NC but he also inherited a lot of talent.
I disagree that a lot of coaches could have come in and done what he did at Clemson because there is only a handful that has done what he has done at any program. Dabo stands alone in comparison to other Clemson coaches and is by far the greatest coach Clemson has ever had.

Uh, no!
Danny Ford had a decade, plus, with outstanding teams. In 11 years, his teams were 96-29-4 and went 6-2 in bowl games. His teams won 20 of 25 games against schools ranked in the top 20 (correct back then) by the AP.
He led little-ole Clemson to become a consistent winner that was generally accepted across the US. Those wins included wins over UGay? And ND in South Bend. And Oklahoma. And that OSU. Wins over these teams were a major step-ups for teams from the ACC. (Bobby Bowden's FSU teams, with Brad Scott as the OC, teams were the exception -- as they feared no one.)

"A lot of coaches could've done what Dabo did." Yet there is only a small handful of active coaches with similar or barely similar resumes in the country at bigger schools. Awful take buddy.

But none of them ever did...we here all this guffaw about Frank Howard...his record was pitiful...he managed to beat Presby and Furman on a regular basis but got no respect..look at his 4 best seasons,we were ranked no higher than 9th ever...and his losers would have gotten any modern coach fired...only Danny Ford and Dabo have ever brought us any real respect and they had to fight like he** for that...nobody knew where CCC was until Danny beat Nebraska and Tom Osborne although Woody Hayes helped us out a bit...Dabo is a winner for sure, makes all the Marxist media mad as he** cause we are stuck in their craw!

(and arguably 2nd most successful) at Clemson, what Wilhelm did for our 2nd most popular sport (and debatable whether it is our 2nd or 3rd most successful program) and clearly Dabo has done the almost unimaginable to our most popular sport at Clemson.
Chuck Kreise COULD be in there with what he did with our men's tennis - clearly our 4th most popular sport . . .
And if anyone knew the "coach" (I think they are called advisors (? ? ? ?)) 's name of the concrete canoe racing thingy - he could be on the list, too, leading our 5th most popular sport.
All of these are VERY deserving.

I got to know some of the Nigerian players who played for Coach Ibrahim. The consensus was that he could not coach but was an excellent recruiter. If part of selecting the best coach is knowledge of X 's and O's, Coach Ibrahim would not be even in the top 10.

I think he could recruit and coach. He won the 1984 National Championship with the team a majority of foreign players (mostly Nigerian). Then, after having been heavily criticized for using so many furriners, he won the 1987 National Championship with a majority of U.S. born players (I seem to remember that there were only a couple of furriners on the 1987 team, but my memory could be off).

but while not the "best coach" results wise Press Maravich was the best I have personally witnessed. I used to sit in the bleachers at Fike watching practice and him teaching the game. Given no facilities, and a very small budget he did wonders. We won our first ACC tournament games under him.

Big Dog,
Maybe it is because I am so old, but I'd have to say Cliff Ellis - those teams were amazing - and the really competed when the ACC was at its best !!

I loved OP initially. But he was a 1-trick pony

When his zone was working, we could play with anybody. But once they figured out how to break the zone, we were done. Our entire identity was that zone defense. It was time for him to go, when he did. He actually kinda reminded me of Chad Morris and his refusal to run a Qb sneak. His course had run the same way.

Your opinion kinda absurd, he wasn't even the best basketball coach.
You missed an opportunity. How about Brad Brownell, Larry Shyatt, or Humpty Dumpty?

He left Clemson for DePaul, which is a better known school for basketball. While there compiled a 54 win , 105 loss record. Very unimpressive.
