Yet they didn’t put OSU above Michigan. We saw OSU play UGA

We saw Michigan lose to TCU. Then we saw what UGA did to TCU.
You really think UM is better than OSU?

The fact the TCU is above OSU invalidates everything

I’m not surprised FSU is ahead of us. We were .500 the last four games of the season. And the losses were ### whoopings

In other words, the best guess of the coaches is that in 2023 Clemson will be quite good but not elite. After two less than scintillating years, good but not overall exceptional recruitments, and an unwillingness to play the portal game, that seems about right. The momentum has left the program, and we are now settling in to high double digit rankings.
We are close enough to the top to break into the single digits, but the days of Clemson being almost automatically put there pre-season are probably gone. The rankers don't care about past glories. If you are not going to use the portal, the key is recruitments, and Clemson does not figure strongly in that aspect. Kirby Smart and Nick Saban have demonstrated that an embarrassment of riches in recruiting gets you to the BCS year after year. They don't need the portal, but until we have world class recruiters (OC and DC) and more comfort with the portal/NIL landscape, we do.
I think about our 88 players on scholarship, and wonder about the contribution of players from #60 to #88 who are occupying spots that make using the portal impossible. I ask myself how our bottom 40 would do in a game playing the bottom 40 of elite teams. However you get it, last night's Georgia-TCU game showed that talent trumps just about everything else. We have enough to be quite good but not enough to be great. Until that changes, it is hard to imagine how Clemson can reemerge as elite.
