Observations from scrimmage

Trayvon Mullen is legit. He will start this year.
Adam Choice is back. Remember he was the starter over Gallman before going down.
Cornell Powell is ready.
Clelin Ferrell reminds me of Clowney.
We're going to win the national championship this year.

I thought he did well. He looked bigger than I remember. Scrimmages do not give us a true indication of his "break away" abilities because of the tag rule. He threw well and scrambled well.
That being said, I was actually impressed with Schussler's pocket presence. Maybe he knew wouldn't get rocked, but he looked calm in the pocket.
I was pleased with all of the QB play.

Dabo is plainly telling his defense to "pick it up." The staff likes some elements, but we are obviously giving up plays which are unacceptable. This should indicate to fans and players alike we have lots of work left over the next three weeks. Forget national championship talk for the moment. Indeed forget talk period. I've had concerns from after the NFL draft simply due to team losses, especially from an experience factor.
Clemson's defense will have to evolve, but do not expect anything "great" until we get more focused and gain some needed experience. The offense is going to have to carry us initially.
Go Tigers!

We have the best offense in the nation.
They are gonna make big plays all year long.....our defense won't be an anomaly to that fact.

and gelled package, chock full of All-Americans spread throughout the positions, I wouldn't doubt that they would have a decent edge on our defense two weeks into camp.
However, there is equal talent, save DW4 who is in a class by himself, on the defensive side - not as deep in the secondary as we are at WR - but solid throughout. They'll be stout and ready come September 3rd.

No team has it all put together at this point in the preseason. Not even "all-mighty" Bamer. We'll be fine. This is going to be a special season.

Bama's d was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread and we carved them up. This offense is better, our d is just young. Louisville, GT, FSU and maybe acccg will be a good barometer. If we win the turnover margin I don't see how we could lose those games.

First really positive report I've heard on Bryant...and I've gotten it now from several guys. I know some observers were getting frustrated with him, watching him double-clutch, hesitate, and just plain not see it, and they were really starting to question - and I think a lot of people were starting to question - if the light was ever going to go on there. The book on Bryant was starting to go: great athlete, just plain not a great natural thrower, and was probably going to get passed by our more natural throwers - Cooper, Hunter Johnson, etc....
Be big-time for Clemson if Kelly Bryant actually comes good, though. People like to compare Deshaun Watson to Cam Newton but aside from the fact that, well, they're both black, they really aren't terribly similar players. Newton was 6'4", 240+ pounds, and ran sub-4.5, and he had a raw if unpolished howitzer for an arm but it really wasn't until he got into the NFL that he's started to refine his passing game. Deshaun is smaller, a little niftier, and probably runs in the 4.6-4.7 range, but he's as accurate a thrower and as good at reading defenses as you'll ever see...he probably compares more to Marcus Mariota, though Mariota was a little faster, but even Mariota was not in Deshaun's league as a pure thrower. Deshaun is at least as accurate in the short and intermediate range and has a vastly better deep ball and stronger arm than Mariota ever did. Deshaun's actually kind of a unique player; I don't know that we've seen quite that combo of elite thrower/elite athleticism before in a college QB.
Bryant, though, compares to Cam Newton physically. Raw cannon arm, astounding athlete, definitely runs sub-4.5, probably even sub-4.4, will probably be 230+ by his junior season, could physically dominate at WR, S, probably even TE if he was so inclined. He'll probably never be Deshaun Watson as a pure thrower...but he's a better athlete, and if he can put it all together in totality he could be at least close to effective.
Delighted to hear there's real signs the light is going on with Bryant. That's potentially a huge bonus and one, frankly, a lot of people were not expecting. He was raw when he first came in.

to go 62 yards on anyone's defense, much less our own at the time.
what happened?
are we slow in the back 4? were we just that far out of position?
did he simply break several tackles to gain extra yards on an already decent run?

So does our D (specifically the secondary) look as bad as the coaches are leading, or is our offense just that dominate, or a mixture of both?

BV says our corners are not doing well. If he can learn all the plays I believe he will start tho. Fields is okay but not great and Edmond is good but not sure he will hold up against top talent.

Coverage was good. We just have a Heisman QB and elite WRS. Not many corners will handles our WRs.
