My mom had two heart attacks yesterday and went into cardiac arrest last night. Her heart stopped for five minutes before the doctors could resuscitate her. I love nothing more in this world than my mom. She is the rock of our family and I don't know what we would do without her. Please keep her in your prayers. She's the toughest person I've ever known, and I have faith God will bring her through this. Thanks t-netters, GO TIGERS!

mom had what we thought was a minor heart attack. A stint was put in on that Wednesday and she was to be released on Monday. But two days after the stint, on a Friday, the part of her heart that was damaged by the first attack ruptured and she flatlined. She was revived by an amazing nurse on duty and the code blue team managed to get medicines in her that essentially put her into an induced coma. She was rushed into surgery on August 1. Had she been anywhere other than the hospital, she would not have lived. In fact, the doctor said had she been in the parking lot of the hospital she would not have lived.

After surviving the surgery, she was on a ventilator and induced coma for four days. She came off for two days and was not doing well with lungs, kidneys, oxygen. They put her back on the ventilator and she was out for three more days. Then she came off the second time and we have not had any setbacks since. She spent 28 days in Cardio-Vascular ICU, 14 more days in a regular hospital room, and two months she and my dad stayed at my sister's house recovering. Home health does wonders when they come home for a few visits and my mom enjoyed the physical rehab she had to go to two days a week.

I certainly hope your mom's situation is not this extreme, but I am telling you all this so that you know that if my mom overcame this, I know for a fact your mom will be successful. The surgeons, PA's, ICU nurses and occupational and physical therapy people are amazing. They are so wonderful and will take good care of your mom.

Take all the prayers and waiting room visits from family and friends that you can get. That did so much for us. Don't panic or freak at any recovery strategy that might seem to be a setback. The doctors told us that. Do not panic if she was on a ventilator, off, and then put back on again. This is a strategy our doctors used and it worked wonders. Your mom may not have even had to be put on one.

I'm sorry to go into all of this, but exactly one year ago I was in your shoes. I knew that hospital like the back of my hand before it was over. But my mom walked into my sisters house 43 days after the second and worst hit on August 1. One year later, she is doing great and had been doing fine since mid-September! Not much of an appetite, but there is a wonderful product called Ensure and that sees that she gets any protein or minerals missed by this lack of appetite. She walks and does all the things she did before. Her heart stopped for at least two minutes. God Bless you and your family, my prayers are with you and I hope my story has convinced you that you will be looking back on this day a year from now with your mom and y'all will be talking about how glad you are that it is one year behind you.
