There's a new Hampton Inn at I-77 Exit 9 (Garners Ferry)

plus a Holiday Inn Express at the same exit (easier to get in and out of the HIX lot). Lots of restaurants in the area and fairly quick and easy shot into downtown if needed. 9 miles from I-26 but there's absolutely nothing near that intersection area that isn't a rundown mess.

I live/work near that area, and many affordable/cheap hotels at that exit. Have personally stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and it was nice. The Hampton Inn is brand new. Easy 8-10min drive to I26/I77 intersection.
If wanting to try something different, the Inn at USC Wyndham Garden is nice (albeit directly on the cesspool campus). Renovated and good breakfast. Can sometimes find a cheap rate.
If wanting to be even closer to restaurants, check out the Vista area of Columbia (west Gervais street in downtown). They have a newer Hampton Inn, Springhill Suites, and new Hyatt Place.

Try staying in a camper or sleep in your car in a nearby town. By doing so, you will not get infected.

I think its 63 to 17 miles from downtown. Should be some nice accomodations in that area!
