Rewatched Game - RGIII comment
Oct 30, 2021, 9:45 PM
|
|
Late in 1st quarter, after a very tight pass to Ngata, RGIII said "Have you noticed that everything that Clemson seems to do offensively has just felt like it is hard?" Yes, I have noticed that this year, and in the past year or two. There are no easy layups or wide-open receivers.
Why is that? It has been painfully obvious to me. I wonder if it is obvious to Dabo.

all year. Problem is what Dabo sees as the problem and what he'll do about it in the off season

because we have no OL play that's really good. A good OL cures many ills, where we've relied on stellar QB/WR/RB play to make up for the OL. Just getting in the way vs putting a hat on a player. So, is it players or coaching? I don't see an abundance of our OL going to the NFL.

I don't see how the quality of an OL has anything to do with getting or not getting WRs open.

Because quality OL play leads to a better run game. Better run game leads to the defense having to commit an extra body to help stop it and vulnerability to play action, which leads to more open receivers.

But against these (excluding Georgia)opponents, the talent disparity, we should have our way. We should not have to setup the pass with run game but never the less, we still have little to no success in the passing game. Some calls went our way + a bone head late hit, & a great run by the white boy-

the WR to complete his route, then the pass is unlikely to be completed.
If you have ever played football, this would be very easy to understand.

I’m no coach but my guess is that it all stems from opposing defenses not respecting the medium-deep pass, and why should they?
Until we prove we can go deep and win the 50/50 balls we will continue to struggle with the “layups” I.e. runs and screens

I caught it. Spot on. I would hope his coaches and analysts have enough guts to tell him if not.
It's not that people don't enjoy and appreciate the wins. Winning is hard. But we've made it hard... That, and I feel like you're talking big picture on endemic problems.

I am watching 5 football games and the Series tonight and what is obvious to me is that our receivers cannot separate from the D backs. Yes, Dabo is not blind and can see that but if we don't have speed it can't be fixed without new players. Watch games and you will understand.

This is a huge problem. Always has been. Even Hopkins 2as rarely wide open. He could just grab the ball if the way half an inch of coverage and qb that could get it there

Rarely do we get separation. Our competitors seem to find an uncovered receiver all day long. It's maddening I tells ya.

It you watched Miami Pitt yesterday it was a different level of football. Receivers had separation and 50/50 balls were won. The rest of college football has evolved. We are stuck at several years ago.

We have regressed. Remember all of the 50/50 balls Ross was catching in his freshman year?

Thanks for pointing out the RGIII comment. Gotta give it to him, he was spot one. When one goes back and watches some film, there are actually more WRs open than we appreciate in real time. It's at least 50/50 that DJ5 (Mr. Big Cinco as he likes to be called) is just not able to do multiple reads. When will that be? No one has a clue.

It's hard because we're using a playbook that's going on eight years old now, that Tony Elliott did not write...and oh, yeah, that everybody has watched crush Alabama on multiple occasions now on their DHS.
It's a good playbook. But it's starting to get dated, and everybody knows what we're going to do...and Tony Ellott is not updating it.
And yeah, Tony's the problem. You have to watch no further than his first presser when he's all testy-like and defensive and arrogant as sin to see that. The dude didn't write the book, he doesn't know how to update the book, and so he's testy. He's getting gen-gapped and he knows it...does not know how to fix it, and so he's defensive.
Here's hoping he evolves. Some guys do. It's seldom easy, though, and it often takes your face getting mashed in awhile doing what doesn't work before you take that next step and do what might.

The whole playbook was a diluted Chad Morris photocopy, and that had pretty much been figured out by opposing DC's when Chad was going out the door to SMU.

Chad stole Gus’s playbook, ran it in the ground, tore it up and buried it. Jeff and Tony dig it up. Scotch taped all the pages together, and used it as long as they could.
Tony has nuthin. At this point I suspect Brent could update the playbook better than Tony if he were asked to.

I have noticed many wide open wide receivers missed or not even seen because someone only stares at his primary target and never sees it. You can blame o line and receivers all you want but when he has had time he still can't throw the ball off the back of a boat and hit water. It doesn't take a genius to figure out most of our problems are qb related period.
