I called this when everyone else was acting like we were going to win this by 50. SMU has a good offense, but were a little shellshocked in this new atmosphere (probably the biggest game they've had in 45 years).

But yes, Wes is an analyst, not a coordinator. He's too scared to dial up pressure because they statistically are high risk plays. But he can't comprehend that football isn't math played by robots. There are mind games and emotions play a role. Venables would sometimes get absolutely torched. But his defenses messed with offenses' minds and allowed us to take over the game. The best example I can think of this was the Clemson-Louisville game in 2018, where we were up like 21-17 halfway through the second but won 63-17.
