They are all very good with the potential to be great! I like our Clemson class. What matters is how they work and perform once they arrive on campus.
Great overall class, with a lot of potential to be successful at Clemson!
Remember Texas A&M had the Number One (#1) 2022 class with the most 5 ⭐️ prospects. Results: 5-7 with losses to Appalachian State and Miami……. No bowl….. Lots of team dissension (NIL haves vs. have not’s) and a coaching mess.
Getting the right players is more important than getting the highest rated by recruiting services. Our coaches do a great job of recruiting the right players that truly form a TEAM.

Hearing raves about Woods. Some folks who have seen him think he's Tyler Davis/Grady Jarrett good, and that kind of savage competitor. Hope they're right...but these guys usually are.

Ratings don't matter that much.....plenty of successful Tiger players without 4 or 5 stars: Hunter Renfro, Skalski, Isaiah Simmons, Tanner Muse, BT Potter....

Everytime I see a post like this it really makes me wonder.
60% of 5* recruits get drafted in the NFL 23% of 4* recruits get drafted in the NFL 5.1% of 3* recruits get drafted in the NFL
Is star rating an absolute barometer of whether a player will be successful? Of course not. But to suggest that "ratings don't matter" is absurd

That stat is fairly meaningless. There are way more 3* than 4* and way more 4* than 5*. If you gave 100 players 5* instead of 30, then that percentage would be well below 60%.
But I don't disagree with you. Its no mystery how Bama and Ohio State are top 5 year-in and year-out and produce the most NFL guys. And there is a direct correlation between team success and the number of NFL guys on your roster (Just look at 2016-2018 Clemson rosters compared to 2021-2022). It all starts with recruiting.

Yep, all about the Jimmy and Joes. We've slipped in recruiting since 2019. The 2020 class was Dabos highest-rated ever and most of the higher rated talent were busts or couldn't stay on the field because of injuries. We've had our share of busts in all the classes but our skilled positions have taken a step back since 19. Hence, missed cfp berths.
Now, I don't care what the ratings are but in the landscape we're in now, you either have top classes like uga or Bama, or you can afford no misses, or you supplement your recruiting with portal recruiting. Hopefully we turn it around soon.

You absolutely must have talent to win championships, and to be consistently dominant, but coaching is actually more important. And that is proven every year and has been proven historically over and over and over! I could spend hours giving you examples of where coaching is clearly more important than talent.
Clemson has more talent than anyone on our schedule, but we have struggled the past two years and it’s not just because of injuries. A lot of it is coaching! Most of it is coaching!
Look at all the talent at Texas A&M. That is a coaching situation!
Dabo had to win at Clemson before the recruiting reached a level where we could win championships.
I literally can’t type the rest of the afternoon giving examples. No one wins with just talent. It just does not happen. I don’t care how much talent you have. If you don’t have good coaching, you’re not gonna win championships and you’re not going to be a consistently dominant program. Teams with more talent lose to teams with better coaching every day!
Look at South Carolina/Clemson this year! Do you think they have more talent than us? They do have better coaching right now. Go look at the résumé of their coaching staff compared to the résumé of our coaches. And make no mistake Clemson lost because of coaching.

Man I feel like you were reading my mind with what you were saying! We lost by one point to USUCK with a QB that went 8-29/ 98 yards. That tells you the talent was different. But Clemson has to have the least experienced coaching staff probably in all divisions of college football.

If most of it were coaching, then you would have teams like old school Wake Forest teams that would be winning national championships. They were always well coached but full of 2 and 3 star players.

Obviously, you weren't following the classes that brought in the first title under Dabo. Those weren't even in the top 5. I'm not saying recruiting doesn't matter at all, in fact it matters very much. But, you are wrong in saying Clemson recruiting has slipped because it hasn't. The class that included Bresee was either number 1, or right there, and they haven't won anything.

The talent Clemson had when we won our first national championship under Dabo We averaged somewhere between number seven and number nine, depending on which recruiting agency you use. Followed by at least three recruiting classes ranked fifth or higher.

Clemson is the only program that has won a national championship in the last 20+ years that did not average a top-five recruiting class for the four years leading up to their national championship.
But that was before the portal, which we do not use, before we lost all of our coaches that actually have experience coaching players and the ability to develop those players, and that was before our recruiting dropped off. Because make no mistake, our recruiting has dropped off the last three years.
Recruiting rankings are far from exact when it comes to any individual player. But make no mistake, they are fairly accurate when looked at in aggregate. If you aren’t in the top 10 each year you have virtually no chance of winning a national championship. With the exception of Clemson if you’re not top five you’re extremely unlikely to win a national championship. But again everything has changed since then and all of those changes are working against Clemson.

The real difference between whether 3*s are successful or not is :
(1) Whether the program doing the recruiting has the skills to evaluate and project what they see from the HS player.
(2) Whether the program also considers non-football talent factors such as hard worker &/or good student. (The good student types are more likely to pay attention to coaching, actually learn something from watching film. The hard worker types ... that attribute speaks for itself.)
(3) Whether the program can successfully attract the under-rated (as far as recruiting services ratings go) 3* recruits vs. other programs. (Remember the Jordan McFadden deal? VA Tech recognized him for his great feet; we had a better program and was able to get McFadden to switch to us.) There is tooth and nail fighting for the under rated 3* recruits that the college coaches recognize, but that Rivals and 247 can't figure out.
(***) This is why 3* HS players tend to work out better for Clemson than they do at the typical lower-tier schools.

Kickers have a scale that only rates kickers. He was 5* on that but 3* overall when you add him in with all others.

Who actually really cares about what they say, I mean how many teams have we seen that had the #1 recruiting class win a National Championship besides Bama, but they also win National Championships with top 10 classes, as we have done with top 10 and higher recruiting classes....

Basically Burley and Woods are 2 5*s coming in like KJ and XT were. Its funny how dif some of these recruiting sites are, one will have a guy Top 10 overall and another won't even have them top 50 lol. The guys are really good...period.

I've followed recruiting closely

Since 1999 and to a lessor degree since 1991. I've seen countless hours of tape on prospects. Peter Woods, has about as impressive of a highlight reel, as I've ever seen. Looking back on Dlinemen that have been at or near #1 overall, Woods meets or exceeds the vast majority. Rashan Gary especially comes to mind. Woods tape is FAR more impressive.
I really dint see how anyone could s6bjectivy look at his film and say he is not top 10 overall, at a minimum. The guys who make their living recruiting, analyzing and ultimately winning or losing with these kids know what they see. There is a reason Woods is now considered the biggest home state recruiting loss of the Saban reign. The kid is a monster. His motor is non stop. He has insane instincts, lateral movement, lighting off the Snap, vicious in his attack, great bend, good toolbox especially at the the HS level. He destroys blocks, can line up across the entire front., Speed to burn and super athlete.
I absolutely cannot wait to see him in a Clemson uniform. I think Vic Burly is way up there too. I truly believe these two are very special talents and I think they will be household names.

The rankings make no sense. I don't think anyone can watch the tape and say Burley is a 5 star, but somehow Peter Woods isn't. Peter Woods is far and away the best recruit we have in this class and I think ESPN is closer to getting it right, they have him as the #1 d-line prospect and #9 overall recruit.
