We might not all agree on whether the playoff should be moving to 12 teams. Ultimately, the reason for expanding is being driven foremost by money. Nonetheless, it does seem like it will offer a lot of fun for the fans.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I assume we will have a committee determine the rankings/seedings for the 12 team playoff. I also assume the make-up of the committee (i.e., membership) will be the same as the current make-up format.
Who knows how good a Group of Five team is, for example, unless they get to play with the big dogs.
It also allows a team who is peaking at the end of the season to capitalize on that. Imagine if we had that in place this year and with Klubnik at QB now. Or any other team who has lost a starter, for whatever reason, and is now playing QB2 or QB 3, or a star RB or WR or whatever has emerged from the pack after replacing an injured starter.
I also like that in the first round you play at home fields. That's great for all of those schools and local economies.
The other football divisions have been doing something like it for decades and decades. I've never understood why D1/FBS didn't. Yes, it's a lot of football, but nothing that the other divisions haven't been able to do successfully.
This will be much more exciting. The "traditional" bowl season has long since died off since the emergence of the "Your Name Here" Bowl games.
