Four-star 2020 offensive lineman Mitchell Mayes (Raleigh, N.C.) announced a commitment to Clemson on Monday.

He is rated both as a top-100 prospect overall in the guard (No. 99/No. 5 OG on 247Sports) and tackle positions (No. 18/No. 4 OT on ESPN).

Mayes is coming off of a visit to Clemson over the weekend, one of several to the campus during the recruiting process.

"It was a great time," Mayes said of the visit. "I watched practice and stayed the night with a couple of players. I ate with some of the team and then during the junior day I ate with some of the guys and coaches. After that, I hung out at the facilities, all the games and stuff and the nap room. And then Jackson Carman came and picked me up and I spent the night with those guys and we had a great time. And then this morning (Sunday), Coach (Robbie) Caldwell picked me up and we toured little bit of the campus I had not toured and then I left."

"Coach (Dabo) Swinney told me (Saturday), just making sure every is good with me and he's just letting me know that whenever I'm ready he's ready for me to be a Clemson Tiger. Coach Caldwell repeated the same thing. He always treats me well. We talked about life outside of football at Clemson and how I would fit in both ways."

Mayes says he is set to work with a "phenomenal coach" at his position.

"Coach Caldwell is a very intense coach and coaches well," Mayes said. "They were doing a great job and they had a great practice. He's a great coach."

Other prominent contenders for Mayes were in his backyard with NC State and North Carolina and other top offers included Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Penn State and Virginia Tech.

The Under-Armour All-American is an eighth commitment for the Tigers’ 2020 class and a fourth on the offensive line, joining offensive guard Paul Tchio and tackles Walker Parks, and John Williams. Clemson’s 2020 group is currently rated No. 4 nationally.

Another 4-star offensive line prospect coming off of a Clemson visit is set to announce Thursday at 7 p.m., in Knoxville Catholic (Tn.)’s Bryn Tucker.
