Clemson five-star quarterback signee Trevor Lawrence was named the U.S. Army national Player of the Year Friday night.

Lawrence was given the award while in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl (1 p.m. Saturday/NBC).

The 6-foot-6 quarterback passed for 3,296 yards and 41 touchdowns this past season, leading the Purple Hurricanes to an 11-1 record and the second round of the Class AAAA state tournament. A two-time Georgia state Gatorade Football Player of the Year, Lawrence completed 177 of 256 passes and was intercepted just once.

Lawrence was a three-time First Team All-State honoree at Cartersville, where he broke the state career passing records from former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson for both yards (13,908) and touchdowns (161).

Fellow finalists included Clemson receiver signee Derion Kendrick, Clemson LB target Dax Hollifield (Shelby, North Carolina), quarterback Phil Jurkovec (Gibsonia, Pennsylvania), wide receiver Aron-ra St. Brown (Santa Ana, California) and defensive lineman Micah Parsons (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania).
