Star Ratings-Defense
Like most of you, I don't think the star system used by recruiting websites is the best criteria to use in judging a football team. Player development and scheme also have a lot to do with a team’s success. However, a few of our readers asked that I break down Georgia players and share how many stars they had coming out of high school. I decided to include both Clemson and Georgia for you to use as a reference point. I have also included some notes for each position.
Yesterday I broke down the offenses, so today I will look at the defenses. Again, the star system is not the only criteria that should be used to evaluate, but below is how many stars each player on the defensive depth charts released Monday had according to Rivals.com:

Notes:Georgia plays multiple fronts but lists its primary front as a 3-4. Clemson has brought back 9 of its top 10 defensive linemen. Last year was full of growing pains because Clemson’s group had no experience, but it improved as the year went on and is now considered a strength. Georgia lost all three starters but has recruited well for the position.

Notes:This is where stars can be deceiving. Shuey is a three-star that has played more than Steward, who is a five-star. Anthony has not played up to his five-star billing yet. Again, Georgia has recruited well in this position, but this is another inexperienced group.

Notes:Both teams have major question marks in the secondary. Both secondaries will get tested Saturday night because they will be facing two of the nation's best offenses. On paper, these units look like the weaknesses of both defenses but may hold the key to victory.
