"He's very good," Miller said. "I'll tell you right now we were lucky to get him. This kid should have been picked by the Shrine Bowl coaches."

"Monster," Northwestern's Boyd said. "We call him Shaq Diesel."

Lawson said South Carolina is still recruiting him (verbal commitments are not binding) But he has always been a Clemson fan and lives in Central, just a few miles from the campus.

"I picked Clemson because it's a defensive school," he said. "I want to go there and get a gold championship ring."
