According to the NY Times Article:

“A lot of D’s on there,” Troy Davis, the coach at Hargrave Military Academy, said of Clowney’s transcript, adding that Clowney had performed particularly poorly in his earlier years at South Pointe. Speaking of students who had enrolled at Hargrave, Davis said “it was pretty common” for a nonqualifier to have a transcript like Clowney’s."

However, Clowney's former high school coach Bobby Carroll told Palmetto Sports on Friday that Clowney's grades were not an issue.

"There was never any question in my mind he will qualify," Carroll told Palmetto sports. "I'll bet a million dollars he qualifies because he works so hard in the classroom."
