One position that experienced difficulty in Tommy Bowden's first few years at Clemson was the secondary. The Tigers have made big strides in recruiting, as the secondary has been a strength of the defense the last 3 seasons.
Clemson will look to continue to add depth to the secondary with the 2007 recruiting class. One player who could help Clemson on either side of the ball is Doug Wiggins of Miami. Wiggins could play multiple positions in college, but most believe he will play corner at the next level. The South Beach product has over twenty offers, including offers from Clemson, Miami, Florida, and Georgia. The Hurricanes could be the team to beat, but David Blackwell has made a connection with Wiggins. "I talk with Coach (Randy) Shannon a lot. I know Miami wants me to come there, and compete right away. Miami has sent a lot of players to the NFL, and they continue to do it. Clemson is a new school for me. I have never been there, but I may take a visit up there. Coach Blackwell seems like a real good recruiter, and I feel like I have a connection with him." Florida, Georgia, and Auburn were schools that Wiggins listed, as some of his top schools, along with Clemson and Miami. "I talk with Coach Shannon a lot.
