Gamecocks motto 'never again' after Clemson loss |
Clemson dominated arch-rival South Carolina 56-7 back in late November in Death Valley to win three consecutive games in the series. The 49 point differential was the second-largest in series history, second only to Clemson's 51-0 win back in 1900.
“Never again,” South Carolina junior linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams said about the rivalry loss via Josh Kendall of the State. “That is something we have been posting around the locker room, that we have been saying to ourselves. We never want to get beat like that again so we have to do everything we need to do this offseason, everything that we have to do in the fall to not allow things like that to happen next year. As a rising senior, I am not going to allow myself to not work as hard as I possibly can to help me help my team,” he said. “That is something that we have in our head and that’s our motto, ‘Never again.’" Defensive back D.J. Smith said it was tough losing by such a wide margin and hearing the crowd applaud Deshaun Watson exiting the field in his final home game. “It was hard to watch, obviously losing your rival by 50 points,” Smith said. “We are going to sit in our gut, remember it for next year because they did us kind of wrong at the end by holding the ball and having Deshaun (Watson) come out.” Watson finished the game going 26-for-32 for 347 passing yards and six touchdowns.
