Former Tiger signs franchise tag worth over $15 million

by - Assoc. Editor -

The Atlanta Falcons announced Monday that defensive tackle standout Grady Jarrett has signed his franchise tag tender worth a fully guaranteed $15.209 million.

Jarrett and the team can still work out a long term extension until July 15. Regardless of how that works out, Jarrett will be a Falcon for at least the upcoming season.

“As we have said since the end of the season, getting a deal done with Grady is our priority,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said in March. “Applying the franchise tag to him does not change that in any way. Our aim is for Grady to be an integral part of our plan for many years to come and this allows us to extend our negotiating window.”

Jarrett has recorded 179 tackles total, including 13 for loss and three forced fumbles with the Dirty Birds.

He was drafted in the fifth round out of Clemson in the 2015 NFL Draft. The former unheralded two-star prospect had 207 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 37 quarterback pressures, one pass break up, two caused fumbles and four recovered fumbles while at Clemson.
