by - Assoc. Editor -

The Atlanta Falcons announced that they have placed the franchise tag on defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.

He will be paid over $15 million for this season.

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff released the following statement Jarret's situation and trying to sign him to a long-term deal.

As we have said since the end of the season, getting a deal done with Grady is our priority,” Dimitroff said. “Applying the franchise tag to him does not change that in any way. Our aim is for Grady to be an integral part of our plan for many years to come and this allows us to extend our negotiating window.”

In four NFL seasons, Jarrett has registered 179 tackles, 31 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. He was also nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2018 for his community efforts.
