Clemson still in Top 4 of CFB Playoff Rankings |
The Clemson football team (9-1, 6-1 ACC) was ranked the #4 overall seed in the College Football rankings released by the College Football Playoff committee on Tuesday night on ESPN.
The College Football Playoff Committee chose Alabama (#1 seed), Ohio State (#2 seed), Michigan (#3 seed) and Clemson (#4 seed) as the four teams projected in the playoff. "The committee spent a great deal of time on teams two through six," CFB Committee chair Kirby Hocutt said. "There are small separations in that category of teams. Obviously Michigan stayed in that three spot as you mentioned. What impressed the committee about Michigan is they have three wins against CFP top 10 teams at this point of the season. Keep in mind every week is important. At the same time, the committee is reviewing the complete season resume of these teams each and every week." Hocutt shared the committee's reasoning why Clemson was ranked above Louisville. "Louisville has been viewed as a very talented team," Hocutt said. "There is a small separation between teams two through six. When you look at #4 Clemson and #5 Louisville, Clemson has three wins against CFP top 25 teams compared to one for Louisville at this time and the committee still places a high value on the head to head Clemson has over Louisville at this time as well." Current Vegas odds have Alabama as an 11 point favorite over Clemson while Ohio State would be a four point favorite over Michigan. Clemson lost 43-42 last Saturday in Death Valley against a hungry Pittsburgh team, and the Tigers hope to rebound against ACC foe Wake Forest on Saturday night. Full Top 25 Ranking 1. Alabama 2.
