Chad Kelly gets another NFL chance |
The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that they have signed free agent quarterback
Chad Kelly.
Kelly recently tried out during their rookie minicamp, and it appears that the team liked what they saw. The other talented quarterbacks on the Colts include Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett, and Phillip Walker. Back in October, Kelly was charged with first-degree criminal trespassing in Englewood, Colorado and was released later that week by the Denver Broncos. He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal trespassing and did 50 hours of community service and had one-year of supervised probation. His uncle Jim Kelly congratulated his 25-year old nephew on the new NFL opportunity per his Instagram account. "Congrats on the recent signing of my nephew and Godson Chad Kelly to the Indianapolis Colts," his uncle wrote. "I know he has been through a lot and has made some mistakes in his life but I’ve spent some quality time with him the last couple months, and I see a different Chad. I am pumped to see what the good Lord has planned for the next chapter in his life. You can’t change the past, but you can surely learn from it. I thank God for giving him another chance. Go get them Chad, Uncle Jim is ready and excited to see you on the field again. It’s time to “TURN THE PAGE.“ 'Swag' played for Clemson in 2013 and was 10-for-17 for 58 yards, but was dismissed following 2014 spring practice. He wound up at Ole Miss, and put up big numbers for the Rebels in 2016, completing 298-458 for 4,042 yards, with 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He was a seventh-round pick by the Broncos in the 2017 NFL Draft.
