Swinney gives Monday injury update |
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says his team is in "pretty good shape" when it comes to injuries before Saturday night's showdown with Auburn.
The one starter in question going into the week was junior safety Van Smith, who suffered a sprained knee in the Kent State opener. On his radio show Monday night, Swinney said he received a "pretty good report" on the Charlotte product. Smith played only nine snaps and posted one tackle on Saturday, while sophomore K'Von Wallace stepped in to play 31 snaps with two tackles. Swinney said they are "hopeful" that sophomore safety Denzel Johnson (pectoral injury) can make his season debut Saturday. They will reevaluate him after seeing him in pads Tuesday. The Columbia product played 54 snaps last season with nine tackles - five on special teams - over 13 games. Tight end Garrett Williams (knee) is one Swinney says they "feel good will return sooner than later. He's made really good progress." The junior suffered a torn ACL during spring practice.
