Schmidt selected #595 overall in MLB Draft

Clemson right-handed pitcher Clate Schmidt was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 20th round with the #595th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.

"Beyond blessed with the opportunity that the Detroit Tigers have given me," Schmidt tweeted on Saturday. "To the Clemson family, thank you for the continual support. But here's to the people that have gotten me here, my family, thank you so much there are no words that can express my gratitude for you. This is for you."

In 2016, he was 8-5 with a 4.83 ERA with 68 strikeouts and 21 walks. For his career, he was 18-19 with a 4.62 ERA with 178 strikeouts and 98 walks.

Schmidt was drafted previously in 2015 in the 32nd round (951st overall) by the Boston Red Sox.
