S.C. governor issues new order on mass gatherings like stadiums

South Carolina governor Henry McMaster issued a new order that opens the door for fan attendance in college stadiums this fall.

McMaster, who warned earlier this month that restrictions on stadiums could stay in place if COVID-19 didn't go down, opened up places for mass gatherings such as stadiums, festivals, concerts and the like to 50 percent capacity or 250 people (250 being the maximum of those two numbers). McMaster added that high school games could receive exemptions on the 250 attendee rule with the proper plans for social distancing approved by the SC Dept. of Commerce.

The state still encourages use of face coverings and social distancing to help cut down on the number of cases.

In COVID-19 cases, DHEC announced on Wednesday in South Carolina 1,666 new confirmed cases and 48 confirmed deaths, bringing the total recorded deaths to 1,551.
