Rankings: Clemson moves into top-10 of Baseball America poll |
Clemson moved back into the top-10 in one of the two major college baseball polls Monday.
The Tigers (22-6, 8-4 ACC) vaulted four spots in the Baseball America Top 25 to No. 8 after a 4-0 week, including easily rolling through an ACC series sweep of Boston College. D1Baseball.com slotted them one spot up to No. 11 this week. Clemson is up No. 4 in the RPI rankings to lead the ACC and just trails Texas Tech (23-6), Stanford (20-3) and Florida (25-5) nationally. Monte Lee’s group holds the No. 9 strength of schedule overall and No. 45 non-conference strength of schedule. Going into the weekend, Baseball America projected Clemson as a 1-seed and the No. 11 overall team, opposite in a Super Regional with No. 6 overall Arkansas, which dropped 2-of-3 over the weekend at Ole Miss. Statistically, a good week with the bats moved the Tigers out of the ACC cellar in team batting average to 12th (.250). They are still in the middle of the pack in runs (7th; 6.1 per game) and second in the league in home runs (35; NC State is No. 1 with 44). A big week at the plate has Seth Beer in second in the ACC in home runs (10; NC State’s Brett Kinneman No. 1 with 12) and at 11th nationally (Illinois’ Bren Spillane No. 1 with 14). Chris Williams is now fourth in the league in RBIs (29). On the mound, Clemson is third in the conference in team ERA (3.18), while dropping to sixth in fielding percentage (.973).
