MLB draft: Clemson catcher, commit go in 12th round |
Clemson junior catcher Kyle Wilkie was selected in the 12th round of the MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday (pick No. 364 overall).
Wilkie hit .307 with six home runs and 41 RBIs last season. Over three years, he has totaled 86 RBIs and 37 extra-base hits with 134 starts in 144 games with a career .307 batting average. He earned third-team All-ACC honors as a sophomore. Wilkie is a second Clemson player with eligibility left to be selected, joining first-round pick and shortstop Logan Davidson. Mountain View HS (Ga.) right-handed pitcher and commit Gavin Collyer was selected in the 12th round as well with the Texas Rangers at pick No. 355. He was rated as the No. 125 prospect overall going in by MLB.com. Congrats to @KyleWilkie10, who was drafted in the 12th round (No. 364 overall) by @Pirates! #ClemsonFamily pic.twitter.com/GBtzctSzdv
I'm very interested in the Round 12 pick by Texas, GA HS RHP Gavin Collyer. Clemson commit, projectable frame. Guessing an over-slot situation.
