Hopkins: "I don’t think any receiver can do what I’ve done" |
DeAndre Hopkins doesn’t see a receiver in the NFL who could’ve accomplished what he has over the last five-plus seasons.
The Clemson product and Central native became the third-youngest player to reach 6,000 career receiving yards, in company within months of Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald. Along the way, Hopkins caught a touchdown pass from nine different quarterbacks, including a Clemson connection with Deshaun Watson interrupted by injury and resumed this season. “Politics is politics. Those guys are on teams that have been in the league for a long time,” Hopkins said on NFL Network of others in the best receiver conversation. “I’m part of a new franchise. People are still catching on to my team. I’ve been getting more recognition, but to me, I’m not really about that. It’s about my team. It’s about my team winning games. But personally, I don’t think any receiver can do what I’ve done with the quarterbacks I’ve played with. Make the Pro Bowls. Have the amount of catches I’ve had. Having 6,000 yards and being the third-youngest player to do that. “I don’t think anybody else in the NFL could have the patience...Sometimes I see guys who are upset when they get 10 balls a game. (I’m like), ‘Man, you couldn’t go through what I went through the last five years with that attitude.’... I don’t think any receiver can do what I’ve done.” Hopkins ranks fifth currently in receiving yards this season (443 yards), coming off of a 10-catch and 169-yard day with a score in an overtime win over the Colts. After being paid as the league’s top receiver to start 2017, Hopkins was a first-team All-Pro last season, setting a franchise-record with the 13 TDs and leading the NFL in both targets (174) and receptions of 25 yards or more (17) - ranking third in 100-yard efforts (five) and fourth in overall yards (1,378).
