Former Clemson WR to sign $48 million deal with Chiefs |
Sammy Watkins has found his new home in the NFL.
The former Clemson receiver has agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth $48 million with $30 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The contract puts Watkins fourth in average WR salary per year ($16 million) in the NFL. Other teams that were on the Watkins' sweepstakes included the Bears, Cowboys, Jaguars, and Colts. Watkins was rated as the No. 5 free agent in the league by NFL.com behind QBs Kirk Cousins and Drew Brees, receiver Allen Robinson and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson. In 2017, Watkins has 39 receptions for 593 yards and eight touchdowns (8th in NFL). During the 26-13 playoff loss to the Falcons, he caught only one pass of four targets for 23 yards. For his NFL career, he has 192 catches for 3,052 yards and 25 scores.
