Early bowl projection for Clemson

CBS Sports released their preseason bowl projections Thursday with a familiar destination for Clemson.

Senior writer Jerry Palm pegs a Clemson matchup with Penn State in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30, which would be a rematch of the 1988 Citrus Bowl (a 35-10 Tigers win).

Palm projects Florida State as the ACC champion meeting Alabama in the College Football Playoff, opposite Ohio State and Southern California.

The postseason destination would follow a pattern, as the Tigers have earned an Orange Bowl bid in each of the last three odd-numbered year seasons (2011, 2013, 2015).

Clemson checked in at No. 6 in the CBS Sports 130 ranking of every FBS school this week. Week two opponent Auburn was No. 9, while ACC division rivals Florida State (No. 3), Louisville (No. 17) and NC State (No. 23) all cracked the top-25.

Regular-season opener Kent State was ranked No. 121 and regular-season finale foe, South Carolina, No. 42.
