Clemson selling "tailgazing" spaces for solar eclipse

by -

CLEMSON — Spectators who come to Clemson University for the Aug. 21 “Eclipse Over Clemson” event can enjoy the expansive view of the sky from a designated “tailgazing” spot at the Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center.

Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. there will be approximately 900 spaces large enough for spacious tailgating available for $50 each. Not only will spectators receive a prime viewing location for the eclipse, but they will be treated to the sight of Hartwell Lake in the distance.

Proceeds from the tailgazing location will go toward enhancing student experiences at the Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center.

In exchange for purchasing a space, Clemson University will provide five pairs of solar glasses to each vehicle to protect viewers’ eyes from the damaging rays of the sun.

To purchase a tailgazing space, visit this link. Vehicles holding 12 or more passengers or with tow-behind trailers will be charged for two tailgazing spaces. Attendees should take careful note of the parking information and policies at the Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center; violators may be asked to leave the property at any time without refund. Any additional questions about the tailgazing location or policies can be answered by Kelly Ator at lator@clemson.edu or 864-656-3373.

Clemson University is busy planning the “Eclipse Over Clemson” event where thousands are expected to gather and view the once-in-a-lifetime “Great American Eclipse” on Aug. 21. The event will be held behind Cooper Library in front of the Watt Family Innovation Center, and is complete with plenty of parking, open space, expert demonstrations and vendors.

For more information about “Eclipse Over Clemson,” visit the website or consult the calendar of events.
