Clemson ranked No. 3, top-10 sees shakeup after upsets in Coaches Poll

by -

The Coaches Poll had its final real word in edgewise before the final College Football Playoff committee rankings culminate next Sunday.

Unfazed by the committee’s moving Ohio State to the top spot, LSU stayed No. 1 with 43 first-place votes, followed by Ohio State (17) and Clemson (4). Georgia and Utah round out the top-5 with Oklahoma just outside at No. 6. Alabama fell four spots to No. 9 after their 48-45 road loss at Auburn.

LSU cruised past Texas A&M 50-7 at home on Saturday, Ohio State went to Michigan to grab a 56-27 win, Clemson controlled the action in a 38-3 win at South Carolina, Georgia went to Georgia Tech and downed the Yellow Jackets 52-7, Utah topped Colorado 45-15 and Oklahoma won 34-16 at Oklahoma State.

The Sooners get a crack at a top-10 win versus No. 8 Baylor in the Big 12 title game (noon/ABC), which rolled into the week with a 61-6 victory over Kansas and have an outside shot at a Playoff spot with also just one loss. The other top-10 meeting for CFP contenders includes LSU versus Georgia in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium (4 p.m./CBS).

Clemson will have a top-25 foe in Coastal Division winner Virginia (No. 22) for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC on Saturday in Charlotte’s ACC Championship game. The Cavaliers are playing in their first ACC title game after downing their rival Virginia Tech Hokies 39-30 on Saturday.
