Clemson point guard to undergo knee surgery

CLEMSON - Head coach Brad Brownell met with the media Saturday and announced that guard Shelton Mitchell will have arthroscopic knee surgery next week.

Mitchell injured his knee early in the season and had it scoped, but re-injured it again during Clemson's first-round NIT loss to Oakland.

"Shelton Mitchell will be having arthroscopic surgery on Thursday," Brownell said. "Going back to the Oakland game, he tweaked it again. It's been bothering him off and on and he had an MRI last week. He'll be out five or six weeks."

Mitchell was one of Clemson’s top performers this past season, his first as an active member of the Tiger program. The Waxhaw, N.C., native was second on the team with 10.8 points per game and led Clemson with 103 assists. Mitchell ended the season on a high note, posting 11 consecutive games with double-figure point totals. He also showed an improved shooting stroke from his freshman season at Vanderbilt, converting 29 of 64 attempts for a 45-percent mark.
