Clemson University Police Department will have new home

CLEMSON — The Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) soon will move from its current location on Centennial Boulevard to 124 Ravenel Center Place, just more than a mile from the main campus off Walter T. Cox Boulevard (Highway 93). CUPD will begin a partial move of its staff the week of Spring Break (March 19-23) and dispatchers will follow suit on Thursday, April 5. The entire operations are expected to go live from Ravenel one week later on April 12.

“CUPD will still be on university property and we consider it a part of campus, we’re just not in the center of the athletic district anymore,” said Chief of Police Jami Brothers. “On April 5, walk-ins need to go to Ravenel. We’ll have a front desk officer and lobby set up similar to what we have now.”

Brothers said the new location will have approximately 10,000 square feet, an increase of almost 33 percent over its current space at Memorial Stadium. Clemson’s municipal courtroom, currently housed in the police station, will also move to Ravenel.

“Here at the station, we have about 7,400 square feet, so we’re excited about the opportunity to expand our space a little bit,” Brothers said.

Future plans also call for a substation to be located in Douthit Hills.

“The most important thing for students, staff and visitors to know is that with this move, the best way to contact us will be to continue calling our main number at 864-656-2222. Nothing changes from that standpoint,” Brothers said.
