Spring Game Watch: Dustin Fry

by - Correspondent -

Dustin Fry has patiently weighted his turn to step on the field. After serving as Tommy Sharpe's backup, Fry now is listed as the first team center. Fry has performed very well in his first spring as a starter.

Fry was poised to avoid a redshirt as a true freshman, but a leg injury put a halt to his season. Fry is now the center piece to the offensive line, and quickly becoming a leader on the field. Fry has been seen several times during the spring being very vocal trying to motivate the offense. Coach Bowden is looking for leaders to emerge, and Fry is taking the right steps towards becoming a leader.

It will be interesting to see if the coaches limit Fry in Saturday's game. Fry is as close to irreplaceable as it comes on this team. Roman Fry has performed well as his backup, but he is currently listed as the starter at left guard. Clint Latray is the next option. Latray has not developed into the player the coaches would feel comfortable counting on.

With Fry in the game, you can expect a more productive running game between the tackles. Fry's size and strength may open holes in the running game that have previously been non-existent. If Clemson is going to re-establish a power running game, Fry will be the key piece to the puzzle.
