Perceptions Change

I am always careful to not overreact to week one of any football season. With that said, there were a lot of significant storylines in week one.

DeAndre Francois's injury might be the most significant event of the weekend. It's too early to tell because we don't know how FSU will adapt, but their outlook certainly changed with his injury Saturday night.

Louisville was not impressive in their win in Indianapolis over Purdue, but Lamar Jackson did throw the ball well, and the trip to Louisville could still be a difficult one in two weeks.

It's hard to know what to make of Auburn's win against Georgia Southern. Much like Clemson's opponent in Kent State, Auburn's opponent in Georgia Southern had a middle school passing attack. Jarrett Stidham did not impress in week one, but who knows what he will bring to the field this Saturday night in Death Valley.

Virginia Tech lost their starting quarterback, leading receiver, and tight end from last season, but the Hokie's were impressive in their win against West Virginia. Again it's only one week, but the trip to Blacksburg later this month could be a lot more daunting, and Justin Fuente is a rising star in the coaching industry.

On the other hand, NC State found a way to lose to South Carolina, and maybe the trip to Raleigh won't be as difficult as we may have thought in the preseason.

Finally, it looks like Georgia Tech has its most dangerous quarterback in years and beating the Jackets won’t be as easy as it may have looked one week ago.

They say football teams improve more from week one to week two than any time in the season, so we obviously will have a different perspective this time next week. However, the trip to NC State and a home game against FSU don't look near as difficult as it did one week ago. On the other hand, trips to Louisville and certainly Blacksburg do look difficult.
