Six Former Tigers in PGA Tour Events this Week

by -

Clemson, SC-D.J. Trahan is one of six former Clemson golfers who will

be playing in PGA Tour events this weekend. There will be three

former Tigers in the PGA Tour's FBR Capital Open at the TPC at Avenel

in Potomac, MD, and three more at the Nationwide Tour's LaSalle Bank

Open at The Glen Club in Glenview, IL.

Trahan will be joined by former Tigers Jonathan Byrd and

Danny Ellis at the TPC at Avenel. The 2003 senior who just led

Clemson to the NCAA Championship last Friday, will begin his

professional career Thursday at 1:39 PM. He is paired with James

McLean and John Morgan. Earlier this week, Trahan failed to qualify

for the US Open when he shot a 141 over 36 holes at a course in

Chevy Chase, MD. Trahan is one of three players turning professional

at this tournament. The others are former Georgia Tech star Troy

Matteson and former Fresno State All-American Nick Watney.

Byrd has a 12:36 PM tee time on Thursday. He is coming off a

29th place finish at the Memorial last weekend. He enters this week

54th on the PGA Tour money list with nearly $600,000 in earnings in

2003. He has three top 10 finishes this year, including an eighth

place finish at the Masters. Ellis will be playing his first PGA

Tour event of the year after battling back problems. He missed the

last half of last season due to back problems.

Kevin Johnson, Lucas Glover and Charles Warren all will be

playing at the LaSalle Bank Open in Glenview, IL, a suburb of

Chicago. The Nationwide Tour event in Virginia was rained out last

week, so all three players should be well rested.
