Clemson Completes Second ACC Sweep in A Row

Clemson, SC- Robert Rohrbaugh gave up one earned run in 8.0 innings in leading Clemson to an 8-2 victory over Maryland on Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The win, which was the eighth consecutive for Clemson, gave the Tigers their second ACC series sweep in as many tries. Clemson improved to 17-10 overall (6-0 in the ACC), while Maryland fell to 13-15 (2-7 in the ACC).

Rohrbaugh improved to 2-1 with the win. The sophomore lefty struck out three batters, while walking none. He did not allow a Terrapin to reach second base until the final inning. Kevin Hart (1-6) got the loss for Maryland, despite giving up just one earned run in the game. His effort was hampered by five Terrapin errors.

Brad McCann drove in four runs for Clemson, all coming courtesy of his first career grand slam. John Ingram and Andy D'Alessio had a pair of hits for the Tigers, while Kris Harvey drove in two runs. Will Frazier was 3-4 for Maryland, while Truan Mehl and Jason Maxey had two apiece.

After being shut down for the first three innings, the Tigers finally got to Terrapin starter Hart in the fourth. Ingram led off with a single, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by D'Alessio. Ingram's single upped his hitting streak to 13 games, the longest hitting streak for a Tiger this season.

Clemson loaded the bases in the seventh, without getting the ball out of the infield. Tyler Colvin reached on an error. Tony Sipp then reached on a fielder's choice, while Colvin advanced to second on a throwing error by the Terps' third baseman. Herman Demmink laid down a sacrifice bunt to third base, and all runners were safe on the fielder's choice.

With the bases loaded, Clemson had its 2-4 hitters up to bat. Harvey, McCann, and Lou Santangelo were 0-9 against Hart entering the seventh. Harvey hit an RBI single, extending his hitting streak to eight games. Then, McCann followed with his first career grand slam. His monster shot to left field was his eighth homer of the year. Then, on the next pitch, Santangelo hit his eighth home run. The six-run inning gave Clemson a 7-0 lead.

The Tigers added their final run in the eighth. Colvin doubled down the left field line, advanced to third on a groundout, then scored after Harvey reached on an error.

Maryland put two runs up in the ninth inning. Frazier hit a single to drive in one run, while the other scored on a fielding error by Clemson.

Clemson returns to action Wednesday night in a home contest against South Carolina, the third meeting between the two this season. The game will be televised live by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast at 7:15 PM.
